James Smith, CPA, HCCP
Controller
James Smith joined Realtex in July 2013 in the Accounting department and was assisting with construction and development as well as property accounting. After demonstrating all his hard work, in 2016 James became the Controller for Realtex. His experience includes accounting, auditing, forecasting, and compliance of projects subject to the requirements of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Prior to Realtex, he was an Accounting Manager in the Austin office for the CPA firm Novogradac & Company where he specialized in financial statement audits, tax return preparation, and final cost certification audits for LIHTC partnerships. He frequently contributed articles to the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits affordable housing publication. In addition, he presented industry conferences and client sponsored training sessions on the LIHTC program and compliance. He received his B.A. in political science from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, is a Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP), and is licensed in Louisiana as a certified public accountant.
