CORPUS CHRISTI (Caller Times) –
Workers stood knee-deep in concrete as the largest concrete pour of The Cosmopolitan was completed Monday.

A total of 80 trucks delivered the 750 to 800 yards of concrete, which was used to pour the swimming pool and foundations for apartments and a deck area.

The work began about 3:30 a.m. so traffic wouldn’t overwhelm downtown street throughout the day.

The Cosmopolitan is a 29 million mixed-use development at the site of the former Lichtenstein’s Department Store building.

This week, framing will begin and is expected to be complete within 90 days, at which point the roof will be installed, said Gary Dickens, project superintendent with Realtex Development Corp.

The development will include a 160-unit residential tower and more than 6,000 square feet of street-level retail space.

Construction is on schedule with plans to hold a soft opening around Thanksgiving and a grand opening in May.
